In his apostolic exhortation The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis invites parishes "to be bold and creative in our . . . methods of evangelization." He reminds us: "What counts above all is 'faith working through love' (Gal 5:6)." The pope calls us to "draw near to . . . the addicted . . . any many others" (210).
Designed as a sequel to the WE THIRST series*, this educational and contemplative evening will suggest and encourage specific community action plans. We will recall our Christian identity as "a people" afire with the Spirit of love, with a mission to serve our neighbor. We will gather together in community to consider tangible ways to put the Spirit and mission into action in the midst of the addiction epidemic.
This two-hour evening includes a short presentation on Ecclesiology and the Addiction Epidemic. Small and large group discussions and brainstorming will follow, and group formation with specific action plans will be encouraged.
*Effective January 2018, this program will be included in the WE THIRST series.
